The Glam Series - Face Time

The Glam Series

Hello!  I am finally almost recovered from the worst sickness of 2014 (fingers crossed).  I am excited to join back in to Jordon's linkup this week to talk all about my face makeup routine!  Now bear with me...none of the items I am about to discuss are fancy or expensive but they work for me and have been longtime staples in my routine.  I have found that spending more moola on facial treatments has been more beneficial to me than breaking the bank on foundations which gives me more room to splurge on other items (ie fancy eye makeups and eyebrow kits).  But if you are looking for some amazing drugstore finds, you have come to the right place! :)

Benefit Porefessional

After applying my Nerium Day Cream (which I talked about last week), I then apply a layer of this magic to my face.  I have been blessed with larger pores (which I am hoping my beloved Nerium shrinks down) so when I received a sample of Porefessional in my Birchbox a few years ago I was very excited to see if it could assist with hiding my pores.  I was immediately sold based on the texture.  It felt like I was applying liquid silk to my face!  It is a somewhat nude color which blends into my skin tone that helps disguise the pores and also redness.  I feel like it acts like an warmup to the foundation.  Kind of like a wannabe concealer, but for all over not just certain spots.   I have since gone through multiple tubes.  The only downside is the price.  At $30 a pop, I can't help but ration it.  I try to only use it when I know I am having a long day without time to touch up my makeup, or when I know I will be taking lots of pictures.  I am actually all out and planned on using my Birchbox points to cash in on a new tube...but they are on backorder!  If that doesn't tell you this product is a winner, I don't know what will! :)  If you have any other suggestions for a winner primer that is possibly cheaper, please let me know!

Neutrogena Healthy Skin Enhancer

Now, this isn't really marketed as a foundation, but I have been using it as a foundation for about 3.5 years.  After applying my primer base, I slap on a layer of this "Healthy Skin Enhancer" by using foundation brush and I feel like it helps tone out my skin and leaves me a clean pallete to apply my blush and bronzer.  I really like this product because it acts as a moisturizer, foundation, and a sunscreen and doesn't leave me feeling like I have a thick layer of makeup on my face.  I like the light clean feeling when it comes to base layer makeup.  I use shade #30, light to neutral and it has not strayed me wrong.  It is very light so I feel like I don't have to worry about having a dreaded makeup line.

Neutrogena Healthy Skin Pressed Powder

Notice a trend?  I have had nothing but luck with the Neutrogena cosmetic line for the past few years, so I have been loyal.  After applying my "foundation" base in the form of the Healthy Skin Enhancer, I then apply it's cousin, the Healthy Skin Pressed Powder with my kabuki brush.  I also use shade #30 in the pressed powder.  I like this powder because it helps prevent shine and makes me feel like my foundation layer is set.  It also helps serve as a touchup for shine throughout the day.  You can also see an alternative use to this powder in my eye makeup post last week.

Milani Baked Blush

Brace yourself...this may be the best drugstore find you will ever experience.  I picked this blush up on a whim.  Now mind you, I like the "dewy"/"sunkissed" look when it comes to makeup so I gravitate towards more shimmery  blush, eye makeup, and bronzers.  I was at Walgreens and I saw this blush and since Ulta had recently discontinued my current blush I figured I might as well branch out to something new and have never looked back!  I have always found that I liked the "baked" blush and bronzers because they incorporate different shades within the blush so it isn't just one uniform color.  This blush has several shades of pink, bronze, and a natural that all blend together for the perfect blushy glow.  I have only used the Bellissimo Bronze shade, but depending on your skin tone there may be a better one for you.  Milani offers a total of 7 different blush shades!  It is only $8 so you can't really lose if you are looking to branch out.  Beats paying $20-$30 at the department store counter!

Physician's Formula Custom Blush and Eye Shadow

This was another random pick.  I was at Target one day and we all know what happens when you go to Target...you walk in for toothpaste and you leave with a shirt, shoes, workout top, and a few new makeup purchases.  Am I right?  Well this one fall day around my birthday, I was running out of of summer glow and also on my bronzer so I thought I would do some experimenting with a new shade of fake summer glow.  I liked the different colors of this compact and how the different colors could blend together to create a unique bronze color.  At first, I thought it was really dark, but then learned to just slowly blend from the top and then work to the bottom of the compact.  I have only used it as a bronzer due to the shade I purchased, but I think you could possibly look into a different shade and use it for both a blush and a bronzer.

There you have it!  My face makeup routine in a nutshell...and all (except the Porefessional) can be found at your local drugstore or Target!  How's that for keeping it simple!  I can't wait to see what other products everyone is using!  Happy Thursday!
